After reading today’s letter, I really wish I could have met Mrs. Evans or at the very least, see a picture of her. She definitely seems to be a thorn in my grandfather’s side. This letter seems to be a checklist of all the usual topics:
- Letters received – check
- Discuss weather – check
- Lentz is playing golf – check
- Mrs. Evans being annoying – check
- Report on Jim – check
I never really thought of my grandfather as being the kind of guy who would go out and have a couple of beers. New detail about my grandfather learned – check!
I have been posting the letters in order of their postmark. Today’s letter is postmarked first, but the letter I plan on posting tomorrow appears to be written prior to this one, yet it has a later postmark. I figure my grandparents didn’t always read them in the chronological written order either as letters were always being delayed in the mail.
No letter today but 3 yesterday guess some went fast and others went slow. Maybe you stopped thinking I would be home anyway I’m still writing.
This I think is the hottest day we have had. Its very depressing. Seems a different kind of heat than we have up there. Must be the humidity.
Lentz went out to watch some demonstration golf. Not for me. There is no shade at that club house and I’m not going to stand there in the sun for about one hour and watch Sammy Snead teach some fellows how to shoot golf. Even if he was the American Open golf champion 2 yrs. ago. He is in the navy now giving lessons for nothing-cheap way to learn golf if you like it, but I don’t care for such. I’d rather spend my money in other ways.
Today is cleaning day and everything does look rather nice, but we’ll hear about it now for 2-3 days. Hard work. On Sun is the time to get into the conversation. She
(page 2) almost goes into tears. Then’s when I get up and walk out. I can feel just as badly as she but I don’t need to woe begone the fact too much. So much for that.
Jim called last night, just to be talking. I’m going to meet him downtown some eve. this week. Have a few beers and talk I suppose. He is thinking of going to some kind of officers training (maybe I told you that). I think I might be able to give him some help. Not my influence but some correspondence that came out.
Well, I’ll not say anything more about when
