I missed last week’s summary so I’ll do a brief one of the last two weeks. My grandfather returned home for leave only to receive a telegram ordering him to return to Norfolk a few days later. He had received new orders. On July 31, he was to report to Moffett Field in California to a new unit named Cub 13. After leaving Norfolk for good, my grandfather returned to Kentland for a few more days of leave. He flew out of Chicago on July 30th. His first night in San Francisco was spent at the famous St. Francis Hotel. Dr. Lentz received similar orders and arrived in San Francisco on the same day as well. They reported to Moffett Field the morning of July 31st as ordered. My grandfather was amazed by the change of weather and how cold it was in San Francisco. He had to purchase additional equipment for his new assignment. Over 50 doctors had been assembled at Moffett Field in anticipation of Cub 13’s deployment. Dr. Lentz had a roll of film in his camera with some questionable pictures that my grandfather sent to Indiana for my grandmother to develop. The men don’t know exactly where or when they are going to be shipped out but it will likely be soon.
Although I already knew that my grandfather was rated an Ear, Nose & Throat specialist from his military papers, he makes his first mention of this in today’s letter.

Tue A.M.
Dear Mother,
Still loafing don’t know how long but probably will still be some time I suppose you have written to the new address and I won’t get it until later. Guess I explained that yesterday.
The Ferro[?] Vital is Vit[amin] B. That seemed to be the only question that was asked.
There are all sorts of rumors as to when + where but no one knows for sure but you keep addressing mail to Cub 13. Until you hear from me definitely-you know. You said something about worrying. Don’t do that about me just take care of yourself. We’ll be Ok.
If Ed can get a CPO rating that will be pretty good. I don’t remember exactly what the pay will be but it is pretty good.
I’m rated as an Ear Nose + Throat specialist. There are only two of us going with the outfit. The other one is the man from Marion I was telling you about. Coffel is his name.
We still keep buying things-laundry soap, shaving soap, toothpaste + pomade etc. Things that we aren’t sure
(page 2) we will be able to buy. Probably buying things we won’t need but we can’t tell for sure.
There are lots of stories you know the kind I mean. Didn’t know there ever were so many I haven’t heard.
We have to leave the lights out about 10:00 PM each night and everything has to be quiet after that except the late getter inners.
Got a rain coat issued to me this AM. Just a short one. They took our pistols away from us because it was against international law. If necessary they may issue them to us later.
Well, it’s about time for this to go out.
Love Daddy

I love the details he gives you in this!!
I also like that they are past the “lovey-dovey” stage in their marriage. The letters are about everyday stuff/people and what they are doing. They also don’t dwell much about what they can’t change. I think this is the first letter that brings up the subject of my grandmother being worried. How I wish I had her early letters!
