Oct 19 – 1942,
Monday noon and it seemed like things got off to a bad start this morning but have quieted down somewhat. Mother fell and hurt her right hand. No bones broken but some swelling. It isn’t bothering her but she can’t do much. Then the baby had a little upset. His bowels were too loose so I cut the Dextri-Maltose in his formula. Was using 2 tbsp to 21 oz mixture so this morning I used just 1 tbsp. He cried about all morning only sleeping short while at a time but when I fed him at 12 he went right to sleep and no B.M. since about 10. If he doesn’t get adjusted I’ll take him to the Dr, but thought I would try reducing the Dextri first and see what results that gives. He is sleeping so soundly now that he must be feeling better.
Yesterday Floyd & Ruth stopped on their way back from Ruth M. Ruth had a bedspread for the baby. That was why she asked me about a bed. She said she figured I would get a bed later on so she wanted to give me a spread. It is very pretty. Pink with a bunny in the center. I wish you could see all his pretty things. We took a roll of film
[page 2] of just the baby then yesterday took some more. It was so pretty outside. We wrapped him good so he wouldn’t get cold. I will be glad when I can take him out in a buggy.
Arlene is down in bed. I don’t know just what the trouble is but the Dr. ordered her to bed for two weeks. They had to put the baby on the bottle altogether. I hope she doesn’t have the same trouble she had before. I am going to be careful myself so I won’t get myself down from overdoing.
The scrap drive is on today. We put out that old bike of Mark’s – those old flat irons and – now don’t flinch – the toaster – it I think was past its prime. We have been using the sandwich grill to make toast it does better than the toaster – as a matter of fact the toaster didn’t work half the time then just one side.
I received three letters this morning. I haven’t rec’d your Navy Ins policy yet. John is going to the library to look up a magazine for me. I don’t know whether they loan magazines or not but I can find one somewhere.
I rec’d a check for 10⁰⁰ from McConnell. While I was in the hospital I would work the wishing well – one day it said something about an old bill being paid. Well, since I came home two have been paid – 11⁵⁰ & $10⁰⁰ helps some. Have been studying a lot about a Christmas package. Hope you get it Dec 25 or before because I am going to mail it this week.
Love – Mother
