Lena’s Postcards #10

HACK1910s Mrs. Bertha Rees

On the surface, this card has little information to determine why it was saved in Lena’s collection. By applying the FAN principle (Family, Associates, Neighbors), it is easy to see how Bertha fits into the story of the postcards. Bertha was born Bertha May Shortridge. She married Justus Rees in 1913. Her parents were Sanford and Ida (Dora) Shortridge. John Wesley Hackleman’s first wife was Martha Shortridge. After a little bit of research, it appears that Bertha and Martha were likely second cousins. The two families lived near one another in Fairview Towship for many years.

The style of artwork and type fonts give an approximate date of the 1920s for this card.
