Thurs Morn, Frances got your card yesterday. Hope you are all well. Ina’s went home yesterday about 9. children sure did like the water. It rained hard yesterday eve. just saw a 43 lb. bass. sure was a dandy. John L. is quite a fisherman. Chester is out casting for bass now. Ina & Paul had good luck fishing. Homer Powells came yesterday. are in a cottage near us. Fred & Homer are fishing now.

Friday morn. Dear folks
Having a fine time catching fine fish, 47 yesterday. We will stay at Yellow Creek L. until tues. & go to Barbee L. the rest of next week. Our address after tues: N. Webster, Ind. We took a drive yesterday P.M., 5-6 mi. to a no. of different Lakes. Took a ride on the Dixie at Webster L. yesterday fine.
Alice Hackleman & Family


Alice was the wife of Fred M. Hackleman. Fred and Alice appear to have vacationed quite a bit at Barbee Lakes as there are several postcards in the collection over the years from there. The Barbee Lakes are located in Kosciusko County, Indiana, in the northern part of the state. Yellow Creek Lake is located in Elkhart County.

This postcard is neither dated nor cancelled. It may have been hand delivered. It was signed by Ina and Frances Hackleman, two of John W. Hackleman’s granddaughters. Francis was born in 1907, and the family lived in Posey Twp., Fayette County, Indiana in 1910. The next sibling Chester was not born until 1913.

Lena’s Postcards #3

Ina L. Hackleman was John W. Hackleman’s granddaughter and the eldest child of John’s son Fred M. Hackleman. Ina married Paul L. Rea on 16 October 1918. They were the parents of two sons before Ina died in 1926, aged 27.
