Dear Friends!

No doubt you thought I had forgotten you, but I assure you I didn’t. I just didn’t get to it. We have a lovely home here. I suppose you are busy getting ready for Xmas. Our Xmas will not be as happy as usual, as we have a vacancy in our home which will never be filled, still we try to make everything as cheerful as we can. Best to Mr. H. With love, Alma

The death Alma referred to was most likely that of her mother, Elizabeth. On the 1930 census, Alma’s father, Charles Backmeier, lived with Alma (and her family). At that point, Charles was a widower. Alma and her family were musicians, as evidenced from the Connersville City Directory in 1915. They were also neighbors of Lena and John Hackleman. The Backmeiers lived at #920 Fayette Street.
