This was a big WOW for me too. Such clear pictures. Yes, now he becomes a real person. Clarify: what does “2 great grandmother” mean? And what is his relationship to Roscoe?

It is a way of abbreviating so you don’t have to keep saying great great, etc. as you go further back generationally.
That just got really real. The second set is breaking my heart. The quality of the photos is impressive. My mug shot photos aren’t nearly as good. That sounds really wrong – not mug shots of myself, mug shots of family members. 🙂
Oh I completely understand. When I first saw the pictures, W.B. totally became “real” to me too. He wasn’t just a name on a piece of paper anymore. And like I said in a prior reply, I see the family resemblance. There is something about the set of his mouth that reminds me of my grandfather. The archivist at NARA was awesome and I can’t believe the clarity of the pictures.
It never fails to amaze me how much material you have and how much research you have done. These mug shots really bring home the story you have been telling. A fine addition.
I know! When I was talking to the archivist at the National Archives a couple months ago and he said there was a mug shot, I was really excited. These are the only pictures I have of W. B. I have a couple of my 2 great grandmother (his sister), and some random portraits of some of their other siblings. I can see some of the resemblance between W. B. and my grandfather in these pictures.
