Complaint of Carrie Rapson

Schwartz, W. B. - 1894-11-29

Constable Harry Naugle to-day took into custody James Holden, on complaint of Carrie Rapson, who charges him with being the father of her child. The cause was filed in Justice James’ court by W. B. Schwartz, complainant’s attorney. The defendant has been absent since last winter and thereby evaded service up to today.

I agree. I don’t think we would see articles like this in the paper. I think there were more laws still on the books about adultery and bastard children. It does not look like Carrie and James married as a consequence. There is a marriage record for Carrie Rapson in Clay County in 1897 (to Thomas Collins). She apparently got over James. 🙂

I wonder if he took responsibility for his actions, or if the charge was dropped. Interesting that this was a news item. I don’t think we would see this today.
