Acquittal

Schwartz, W. B. - 1889-07-25Mrs. Brittick Acquitted.

Mrs. Mary Brittick was acquitted on trial of the charge of assaulting Mrs. McMains with intent to murder. The case involved considerable feeling. The state was represented by the prosecuting attorney and Major W. W. Carter and the defendants by W. B. Schwartz and the firm of Holliday & Byrd. The verdict was received with tremendous shouting and uproar which lasted for considerable time.

Brazil township Democrats Thursday night nominated Geo. Jones for trustee, John Rodenbarger, Paris Biggerstaff, Pat Furlong, for Constables; Clarence Weaver for Supervisor. Resolutions were passed endorsing Governor Gray’s administration and Senator Voorhees and Turpie, and favoring Cleveland for President and Gov. Gray for Vice President.

A Hendricks Club has been organized, President W. B. Schwartz; Vice Presidents Wm Y. Stewart, John M. Turner, Henry Webrle, M. D. Gray; secretary, A. W. Knight; assistant C. W. Yocum; Marshal, F. M. Wright; assistant Marshal, Geo. W. Erwin; Sergant-at-arms, Jas. Boucher.

Geo. A. Byrd, the well-known attorney of this city, announces as Democratic candidate for State Senator from Clay and Owen. The office belongs to Clay County by rights. If a Democrat is to fill the office, no better man can be found.

Wedding Bells

Schwartz, W. B. - 1886-05-20Sunday, immediately after the morning service, at the parsonage, Rev. Middleton united in marriage Mr. W. B. Schwartz, the well known young attorney, to Miss Victoria Wheeler, daughter of A. B. Wheeler, Esq. So quiet had the matter been kept that but few if any at all of their friends knew that the event would take place. The young couple, however, have the best wishes of a large circle friends, who extend their congratulations and wish them a long and prosperous life. Mr. and Mrs. Schwartz are housekeeping on east Church street, near the Catholic church.

Forty-Sixth Anniversary

Friday evening last the members of the Clay County Bar, residents in this city, were royally entertained by Mrs. George A. Knight, at her residence with a 6 o’clock dinner, the occasion being a grand surprise to her husband on his forty-sixth birthday. Covers were laid for twenty-five and the dinner served in four courses. After justice had been done to the feast, the guests were entertained in a social way by Miss Grace Knight rendering excellent music, and in recitals of legal reminiscences by the fraternity. All the guests expressed themselves as having enjoyed the evening pleasantly and departed wishing Mr. and Mrs. Knight many more anniversaries. Those present were Messrs. S. D. Coffey, W. W. Carter, S. W. Curtis, C. E. Matson, P. T. Luther, J. M. Crompton, W. M. Ridpath, J. Q, Cornell, W. B. Schwartz, J. A. McNutt, Geo. A. Byrd, Jno. B. Hussey, E. S. Holliday, Joe Van Ayer, J. Croasdale, J. W. Stewart, H. Teter, W. P. Blair, E. H. Hussey, D. W. Brattin and Jacob Herr.

A blaze

A story and a half tenement house belonged to W. B. Schwartz on Shattuck street in the East end was destroyed by fire at two o’clock on Monday morning. Loss $700.00, insured for $600.00. The building was occupied by Mr. Schwartz and Mr. Fudge a as lodging place.

A partnership dissolved

W. B. Schwartz and John E. R. Ewing have dissolved their partnership in the law practice owing to Ewing’s intention to go West and grow up with the country. Mr. Schwartz, however, will always be found prompt to attend to all legal business in the same office over Hauck & Son’s store.
